Fall Applications
UChicago RIG hosts two application cycles - Autumn and Winter academic quarters. Each application cycle begins with a written form demonstrating interest in real estate and investing. Selected candidates are asked to continue the interview process. Admitted students participate in RIG’s eight-week curriculum, and upon successful completion, become full members of the organization.
We do not expect candidates to have any prior experience in real estate and or investing. Our goal is to match candidates who have a deep desire to learn about the industry with our curriculum, resources, and community. RIG will host information sessions at the beginning of each application cycle where we highly encourage candidates to attend and meet leadership.
Reading Material
The following resources are foundational for RIG members and real estate investors. We do not expect candidates to prepare with the following material. We hope that the broader community engages with these resources as they pursue their passion for real estate investing.
The RIG Experience
External Site Visits
RIG plans at least one site visit a quarter. Last year, RIG members had the opportunity to visit the UChicago Endowment, LaSalle Investment Management, Marquee Development, Wrigley Field, and the Hines office.
New Member Education
RIG provides members with a 6-week educational curriculum led by the President, covering topics such as asset classes, valuation, pro forma modeling, debt financing, development, REITs, and private equity. NME serves as a cornerstone of the RIG experience.
The Landmark series
With a mission to democratize knowledge and inspire innovation, RIG hosts a student-led speaker series, featuring distinguished professionals, from hospitality CEOs to real estate investing leaders. Most recently, RIG hosted Steve Luthman, Global Head of Real Estate at Hines.
Case Competition
Last year, RIG launched its inaugural pitch competition – featuring 12 teams from top universities across the United States and Canada – providing undergraduates with an opportunity to showcase their skills in valuation, investment strategy, and underwriting.
socials
Beyond professional development, we host quarterly socials where members can unwind, build community, and showcase hidden talents, from dominating the pickleball court and grilling steaks to hitting strikes at the bowling alley and more!
research symposium
Each Spring, RIG members deliver presentations highlighting their individual areas of interest. Last year’s topics included America’s industrial real estate renaissance, the reorganization of Caesars Entertainment (CEOC), the rise of master planned communities, and Miami’s booming real estate market.
Keep Up With RIG!
